I Need a Perm To Be Pretty - 5 Misconception of Natural Hair

I Need a Perm To Be Pretty - 5 Misconceptions of Natural Hair

Natural hair is to hard to manage: It would seem difficult to manage something new. Ultimately, natural hair can not be treated like relaxed hair. Natural hair is very manageable, once you learn the tools and techniques that will compliment the curls.

Natural hair doesn’t grow: Naturally curly hair shrinks. The coily or curly structure of the hair creates an illusion that the hair is not growing out. This can be misleading. Curly or coily hair can be double the length (or more), once the curls are stretched out.

Dreads/locs are dirty: This seems to be a very popular misconception. Any type of hair that is not maintained or groomed will be ‘dirty’. Locs are nothing more than normal hair strands that have tangled and grown together to form a loc. Locs can be washed, curled, braided, colored, and cut like any other type of hair.

Natural hair is unprofessional: How dare people say that! Clients that frequent my salon  include doctors, news broadcasters, the superintendent of a public school district, a professional sports team owner, as well as a Mayor of a nearby city. Need I say more!

Natural hair is boring: At one point and time this was true. You either had locs or your wore an afro. Well let’s thank god for innovation. The styling options are endless for naturals. Straw sets, double strands, straighten, colored, free-styled, wash and go are only on the tip of the iceberg of styling options available to naturals.

  1. I have natural hair and I love it. I wouldn't change it. Being natural is something that you have to get used to. I was told that I had to do something with my hair because I had to look professional and like a (dumb person) I listened to them, I tried hard to just straighten my hair and It looked horrible I didn't even want to go out with my hair looking like it did. I do wear lace fronts to work 1. because its enough to not have to hear peoples mouth about my hair and 2. it is a great protective style (keep my hands out my hair) but I know I shouldn't change who I am at work for anyone but right now it is working, wearing my wig,I know I wont forever though.
